Champions League top scorers: Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane lead the race

Real Madrid’s talisman, Kylian Mbappé, leads the way in the race to be the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League top scorer with 14 goals in ten appearances, but Bayern Munich’s goal poacher, Harry Kane, is also eyeing the golden boot.
The French forward scored twice in Real Madrid’s Matchday 8 defeat at Benfica to finish as top scorer in the 2025/26 league phase with a remarkable 13, setting a new competition record for that stage. He added his first to the knockout phase and 14th in all in the quarter-final loss at home to Bayern München.
Mbappé’s first three goals of the campaign all came from the penalty spot, two helping Real Madrid to victory against Marseille on Matchday 1 before he opened the scoring at Kairat Almaty on Matchday 2. The French striker then struck twice from open play in the second half to seal the first hat-trick of the 2025/26 Champions League proper.

The 27-year-old followed up by hitting the second-fastest hat-trick in competition history in the 4-3 defeat of Olympiacos on Matchday 5. Mbappé, who has missed three of Real Madrid’s games to date, also scored twice in the 6-1 victory over Monaco on Matchday 7. Cristiano Ronaldo’s single-season record of 17 Champions League goals is in his sights.
Kane chases Mbappe
Kane leads the chasing pack after moving to 11 with the second goal in Bayern München’s 2-1 first-leg triumph over Mbappé’s Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. The 32-year-old, the first Englishman to rack up a half-century of goals in the competition, has equalled his best single-season tally in a Champions League campaign, which he set last term.
Anthony Gordon is on ten, but his Newcastle side have been eliminated, while Atleti’s Julián Alvarez moved onto nine with a stunning free-kick in his side’s 2-0 quarter-final first-leg win over Barcelona.

Hat-tricks in 2025/26 season
There have been eight hat-tricks in the 2025/26 Champions League, including two for Mbappé. That is four short of last season’s total of 12, but there have already been more knockout phase trebles this term than last (three and two respectively).
