Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed that forward Alexander Isak is set to rejoin Liverpool’s full training sessions on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

The Swedish forward, who cost the club a record £125 million, has been sidelined since December after suffering a broken leg and undergoing surgery on his ankle. Before picking up the injury during a match against Tottenham, the 26-year-old had featured 16 times for Liverpool and found the net on three occasions.

Isak returns

Speaking to the club website ahead of Thursday’s training, Slot explained that Isak is progressing well in his recovery and is in high spirits, especially after Sweden secured qualification for the World Cup.

He noted that returning to full training with his teammates marks an important step after several months of intensive rehabilitation, adding that it is a positive moment not only for the player but also for everyone at the club.

“I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup and, apart from that, he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow,” Slot told the club’s website.

“If you’ve worked so hard for three or four months or something like that and then return to team training, that’s very nice for everyone. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place,” he said.

Liverpool are currently getting ready for a major FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2026.

The Reds brought Isak in from Newcastle United in September for a British record transfer fee. His injury occurred on 20 December when he was tackled by Micky van de Ven while scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham, resulting in an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula and required surgery.

Meanwhile, after spending on attacking talent Hugo Ekitike over the summer, Liverpool’s fortunes have paid off, and they will be depending on his services against City, with most of their goalscoring threat coming from the newcomer.

The 23-year-old is being allowed to showcase his versatility on many occasions, something City will have to keep a close eye on. Dominik Szoboszlai has become Liverpool’s main man this season, scoring his 12th goal of the season against Galatasaray, with eight assists to his name.
