Saturday weather forecast: Kenya Met predicts rain, chilly conditions and high winds

Kenyans planning Saturday activities across various regions can expect mixed weather patterns today, according to the daily forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department valid until 9:00 pm on August 15, 2026.
The forecast, issued by Acting Director Edward Muriuki on August 14, 2026, outlines expectations regarding rainfall, lower temperatures, and strong atmospheric winds.
The department highlighted that rainfall will affect several western and Rift Valley regions throughout the day, noting, “Rainfall expected in some parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Kericho, Narok, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Nandi, West Pokot and Kakamega counties.”
In areas like Trans Nzoia and Kericho, afternoon hours will bring moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms over a few places. Temperatures across these western regions will range from lows of 11°C in Kericho to highs of 29°C in Kakamega.
Rainfall data showed Eldoret Met station recording the highest precipitation at 23.8 mm, followed by Kakamega at 16.8 mm and Eldoret Airport at 10.4 mm between August 13, 2026, and August 14, 2026.
Cool conditions in central highlands
Central highlands residents can expect a cool and cloudy start to the weekend. The advisory states that “Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Marsabit, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua and Laikipia Counties.”
In Nyandarua, minimum temperatures will drop to 10°C, with cloudy morning weather giving way to sunny intervals and light afternoon showers over a few places.
Nairobi will record minimum temperatures of 13°C and maximum highs of 24°C, characterised by early morning cloud cover followed by sunny intervals in the afternoon.
High winds across coastal and northern regions
Atmospheric conditions in northern and coastal parts of the country will feature gusty winds throughout Saturday.
The department warned of “Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties.”
Daytime temperatures in northern counties remain elevated, with Mandera and Turkana reaching maximums of 36°C. Coastal locations such as Mombasa and Kilifi will see maximum temperatures of 29°C with sunny intervals and minor chances of light morning showers over a few places.
