List of areas to be affected by 8-hour blackout on Friday, August 21

Kenya Power has announced an eight-hour power interruption expected to affect several areas in Nyeri and Taita Taveta counties on Friday, August 21, 2026, as the utility company carries out planned maintenance.
In a notice released on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Kenya Power revealed that the planned interruption is scheduled to run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, meaning customers in the affected areas could remain without electricity for most of the working day.
According to a notice, the interruption will affect parts of the Mt Kenya and Coast regions, with customers in specific areas of Nyeri and Taita Taveta expected to be affected.
“Good evening, please find the areas affected by the planned power interruption scheduled for Friday, 21.08.2026,” Kenya Power wrote.
Parts of Nyeri County
In the Mt Kenya region, the affected area will be Ngangarithi and Kimathi Estate in Nyeri County.
The interruption is scheduled to begin at 9.00 am and continue until 5.00 pm.
Kenya Power listed Ngangarithi Market, Town View, Kwa Mwaura and Kimathi Estate among the areas that will experience the interruption.

Customers in neighbouring areas may also be affected, with the utility company including adjacent customers in its notice.
Residents and businesses within the affected parts of Nyeri have therefore been advised to plan their activities around the scheduled eight-hour interruption.
Parts of Taita Taveta County
In the Coast region, Kenya Power will also carry out planned maintenance affecting the whole of Chakaleri in Taita Taveta County.
The power interruption in the area will also run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on Friday.
According to the utility company’s notice, the affected areas will include Chakaleri, Landi, Ziwa la Ng’ombe, Mzwanenyi and Mwatunge.
Other areas listed include Public Works, Msisinenyi, Mandala and Singila, together with customers in adjacent areas.
The planned maintenance is part of Kenya Power’s scheduled work to maintain and improve its electricity distribution network.

Customers in the affected areas have been advised to take note of the scheduled interruption and make the necessary arrangements before power is switched off.
The company urged customers to treat the announced times as a guide for the planned maintenance, with power expected to resume after the scheduled works are completed.
The interruptions come as Kenya Power continues to publish regular maintenance schedules informing customers in different parts of the country of planned outages.
