Kenya Power announces blackout affecting 3 counties on Wednesday, January 14

Kenya Power has announced a planned power interruption set to affect parts of three counties on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, as part of routine maintenance works on its electricity network.

In a notice issued to customers on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the utility company said the blackout will impact selected areas in Nakuru, Nyeri, and Kisumu counties, with outages scheduled at different times throughout the day.

Nakuru county

In Nakuru County, the interruption will affect parts of Naivasha Town, including Kihoto and surrounding areas. The power outage is scheduled from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas expected to be affected include the Whole of Kihoto, Masaada Hotel, Lake Naivasha Resort, Villa Estate, Adee, Boffar Farm, parts of Karagita, Wildfire, Roka Industries, Lakeview, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Guest Inn, Kabati, Naivasha Town, Naivasha Maximum Prison, Landing Beach, the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), and adjacent customers.

Nyeri county

In Nyeri County, Kenya Power said two regions will be affected. Parts of Gatuamba and Ndiritu will experience a blackout from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Affected areas include Gatuamba Shopping Centre, Gatuamba Medical Centre, Gatitiri Dairy, Gatuamba Primary and Secondary Schools, and nearby customers.

Another outage will hit the Gathungururu and Tambaya areas during the same time period.

Areas listed include Gichecheni, Gathungururu, Tambaya, Kaheti, Kiawamururu, Ningaini, Kaheti Boys, Rev. Muhoro, Mbari ya Ngai, Kagunyo Coffee Factory, and surrounding areas.

Kisumu county

In Kisumu County, parts of the Sugar Research area will be without power from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The blackout will affect Gate Lakes University, Sugar Research Institute, the Gita area, and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power said the planned interruption is necessary to allow for system maintenance and network improvement works.

The company advised affected customers to plan accordingly and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Customers are encouraged to check the Kenya Power website for detailed schedules and updates on power restoration.

“Good evening, please find below the areas scheduled for planned maintenance on 14-01-2026″, Kenya Power stated.
