Kenya Met predicts low night temperatures and scattered rains in 5-day forecast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a five-day weather forecast covering August 9, 2026, to August 13, 2026, advising Kenyans to prepare for mixed weather conditions across the country.
In the official update, the department stated that “Rainfall is expected in several counties,” with different regions experiencing varying conditions ranging from cold mornings to high daytime temperatures.
People living in the capital and surrounding regions will need to keep warm throughout the week.
The forecast indicates that “Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Machakos, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Nakuru, Marsabit, Garissa and Taita/Taveta counties”.
Cold nights
In Nairobi, mornings will feature cloudy to sunny intervals before giving way to sunny afternoons. Daytime maximum temperatures in the capital will range between 23°C and 26°C, while night temperatures will drop to 12°C on August 10, 2026, and August 12, 2026.
Neighbouring counties in the Central Highlands, including Nyeri and Kiambu, will see similar cool trends, with nighttime minimums falling to 10°C.
Nyandarua County will record the lowest temperatures in the country. Nighttime minimums there will drop to 6°C on August 11, 2026, and 7°C on August 10, 2026, alongside light morning rains and afternoon showers.
Meanwhile, coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu will experience morning light showers followed by sunny afternoons, with daytime highs averaging between 28°C and 31°C.
Heat in North Eastern, showers in Western counties
While central areas remain chilly, North Eastern Kenya will continue to face hot conditions. Mandera will record maximum temperatures of 37°C from August 10, 2026, to August 13, 2026, while Garissa will reach 36°C on August 10, 2026. Wajir, Turkana, and Isiolo will also experience mostly sunny conditions across the five days.
In Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley, afternoons will bring rain. Counties such as West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu will receive moderate afternoon showers from August 9, 2026, to August 11, 2026.
Other areas, including Kakamega, Kisumu, Busia, and Homa Bay, will see light afternoon showers on select days, with maximum temperatures holding between 25°C and 31°C.
