Justina Wamae calls out those urging Sifuna to ditch ODM
George Wajackoyah’s running mate in the 2022 presidential elections, Justina Wamae, has weighed in on the divisions rocking the Orange Democratic Movement party after Edwin Sifuna was ousted as the Secretary General.
The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) kicked out Sifuna at a meeting held in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, marking a significant escalation of the divisions.
In the wake of the fallout, several people, including notable politicians, reached out to the Nairobi Senator, urging him to sever ties with ODM and join another party or form his own.
Wamae’s gives verdict
Giving her take, Wamae dismissed the calls, referring to Sifuna’s past remarks that he would rather be in a party with big shots than bolt out to be the only politician in a small outfit.
“Wacheni kushinda mkimuita akuje muunde chama, alisema he would rather be a small fish in a big pond than a big one in a small pond. Mnaskia na wapi?” Wamae stated on X on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

This loosely translates to: ”Stop urging him to join you in making a new party, he said that he would rather be a small fish in a big pond than a big one in a small pond. Didn’t you hear that?”
Sifuna stays put in ODM
Sifuna has since asserted that he will remain in ODM and fight on, insisting that he remains a loyal member and duly elected Secretary General of the ODM party.
“We shall fight through all lawful means to the end. We will challenge every illegality in the court of law and in the court of public opinion. I remain a loyal member and duly elected Secretary General of the ODM party,” Sifuna added.
The lawmaker addressed a press conference on Thursday, February 12, 2026, saying that his only crime is opposing ODM’s dalliance with Ruto.
“My only ‘crime’ is that I oppose any plans and schemes within the party to support President William Ruto’s re-election, because I have held and continue to hold the firm position that this country can not afford another five years of this expensive, divisive, incompetent and disastrous Ruto misadventure,” Sifuna declared.
He blasted the current ODM leadership for desecrating Raila Odinga’s legacy by being part of illegalities that the former Prime Minister spent his life fighting.

“It is painful to note that sections of the party continue to desecrate the memory and legacy of Raila by turning this party into a theatre of illegality.
“It is also a known fact that whatever deals Raila struck with political parties, he would never have allowed his beloved ODM to become an appendage of State House, where decisions are rubber-stamped after instructions from the regime,” the lawmaker added.
