Emotional Sifuna affirms loyalty to ODM despite ouster, vows to fight on
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has given an emotional speech in which he revealed his next course of action after the Orange Democratic Movement kicked him out.
In a press conference on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Sifuna noted former Prime Minister Raila Odinga must be turning in his grave as his beloved party turns into a theatre of illegality.
The Senator recounted that his opposition to ODM’s dalliance with Ruto started during Raila’s lifetime, and unlike the former Prime Minister, who was anchored in the principles of democracy, the current party leadership has veered from the path with instructions from State House.
“It is public domain that my opposition to ODM’s dalliance with Ruto started long before Raila passed on. He understood my reasons and accommodated them,” Sifuna explained.

Sifuna noted with concern that the current ODM leadership have turned the party into an extension of the State House, accusing the party of losing its independence.
“It is also a known fact that whatever deals Raila struck with political parties, he would never have allowed his beloved ODM to become an appendage of State House, where decisions are rubber-stamped after instructions from the regime,” he slammed.
Sifuna calls out association with Ruto
He said that a gazette notice on changes in party leadership was released last week, on February 3, 2026, several days after it was published with a rider asking for public input within seven days, long after the period had lapsed by more than three weeks.
“It is painful to note that sections of the party continue to desecrate the memory and legacy of Raila by turning this party into a theatre of illegality,” the lawmaker added.
“I leave it to party leaders to judge for themselves if this is really the path that Raila had set for us. Just four months after his death, we can all agree that Rail is turning in his grave,” Sifuna added.
Intervention
He noted that notable people, including Mama Ida, Ruth Odinga and many others, have reached out to him, working for the unity of the party, but their efforts have been thwarted by the rest of the ODM leadership receiving instructions from elsewhere.
The Senator asserted that he will use all lawful means to repulse attempts to make the party a haven of illegalities, asserting that he remains the duly elected Secretary General of the party.
“We shall fight through all lawful means to the end. We will challenge every illegality in the court of law and in the court of public opinion. I remain a loyal member and duly elected Secretary General of the ODM party,” Sifuna added.
