‘Overwhelmed’ – Sifuna reacts after removal as ODM Secretary General

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) kicked him out as its Secretary General.
Sifuna said in a statement on Thursday, February 12, 2026, that he has received overwhelming messages of support and encouragement following the development.
“Following yesterday’s events, I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and encouragement,” he said.
He thanked those who reached out with concerns, acknowledging them and adding that he would address them.
Next course of action
The Nairobi Senator confirmed that he would address a press conference on Thursday, February 12, 2026, to handle some of the concerns raised.
“I will speak to the press this morning to address some of your concerns. Ahsanteni sana. God bless,” he added.
Sifuna is also set to address a political rally in Kitenegela on Sunday, February 16, 2026, as he charts a new political path.
Reactions after ODM kicked out Sifuna
Kenyans from across the political divide took to social media on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, after ODM’s National Executive Committee ousted Sifuna and replaced him with Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.
Some welcomed the move, hailing it as a new beginning for the youthful politician who has shaped Kenya’s political landscape for years.
Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya noted his removal is a huge blessing for Kenya, as it opens doors for more collaborations.
“Congratulations to Edwin W. Sifuna. Now you have salvaged yourself politically; you are now free. We can now fight for Kenyans together… Removal of Sifuna is a win for Kenyans in general. I will now camp in Nairobi to campaign for you. I am now ready to join the movement,” Salasya stated.
Gospel singer Daddy Owen, on his part, stated that ODM has fumbled by removing Sifuna, adding that the Nairobi Senator and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino are the future.
“Him and Babu are the future, ODM fumbled,” he stated.
Senior Counsel Nelson Havi hailed Sifuna as an intelligent man and welcomed him to Democracy for the Citizens Party, writing:
“Edwin Sifuna, welcome to DCP. Fools cannot tolerate intelligent men”.
