‘Ground ndio muhimu’ – Salasya mocks politicians running to meet Ruto at State House

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has mocked politicians rushing to meet President William Ruto at State House to boost their chances of victory in the 2027 elections.
Weighing in on the delegations that have been trooping the State House, the MP noted that the final decision will not be made at State House, but will be made by voters.
“Those people running to State House in the name of aspirants, I sympathise with you,” Salasya stated on X on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
He directed them to where their focus should be, noting the “ground ndio muhimu kwa sasa.”
This loosely translates to: Engaging voters on the ground is very important for now”.
UDA has failed Kenyans – Salasyah claims
According to the lawmaker, the United Democratic Alliance has failed Kenyans to the point where it is laughable to be associated with the party.
He added that aspirants scrambling for the party ticket and trooping to State House are engaging in a futile exercise and should redirect their energy to voters who matter the most.
“UDA has failed Kenyans on many aspects. Sasa ukiambia mtu uko UDA it is laughable at this point. People get serious and focus,” he added.
His statement comes at a time when UDA is preparing for the contest, with aspirants expressing interest in battling it out across the country.
Aspirants eyeing UDA party ticket and major political realignments
The party has so far attracted 149 aspirants keen on contesting for governorship in the 47 counties on the party ticket.
The Woman Representative contest has attracted 323 aspirants, with 279 expressing interest in the Senate race.
1272 aspirants will battle it out for the party ticket, hoping to fly the flag across the 290 constituencies, while 10230 aspirants are eyeing the ticket for Member of County Assembly.
The country is witnessing major political realignments in readiness for the 2027 elections.
A number of politicians who were previously associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have since warmed up to President William Ruto’s camp.
President William Ruto is also courting the Orange Democratic Movement, with one faction of the party warming up to supporting his bid.
The United Opposition has also intensified its political activities, with luminaries asserting that they will remain united all the way to the ballot and will support one candidate.
