Beryl Achieng Odinga’s brother, Omondi Oginga, has shared the last moments of the late Beryl Odinga that led to her sickness, linking it to the last general elections.

“The last time I spoke to my sister was the day they were about to announce the results of the last general elections,” he recounted.
At the time, Omondi recalled how jovial the sister was and quickly offered to organise an air ticket for him to travel to the capital city, Nairobi.
“She called me; she told me we are organising an air ticket for you people to fly from Kisumu to Nairobi,” he said.
He revealed that shortly after the announcement of the general elections, Beryl got unwell, and that was the beginning of her health deterioration.
“I think that was when my sister started getting unwell…. We used to listen to Berryl in various ways,” he said.

Sister’s tribute
On the other end, the Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga recently delivered an emotional tribute to her late sister, Beryl Achieng’ Odinga, offering a rare glimpse into the qualities that defined her life: grace, peace, and unmatched composure.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the requiem mass of the late, she described the loss as one of the most challenging moments the Odinga family has faced.
“We are going through a very difficult time as a family. But God always says He can’t give you what you can’t carry. So as a family, we are going to stick together and remain together and be the resilient family the Odingas have always been,” she stated.

Ruth painted a picture of Beryl as a woman who embodied elegance and dignity in every aspect of her life.
“My sister Beryl was a very peaceful lady. She loved peace; she was a lady with class, with a lot of decorum. She carried herself with a lot of decorum. She was private, and she loved her peace.”
Further, Ruth urged mourners to honour Beryl in a manner that reflects the life she lived—calm, respectful, and dignified.
“I will urge anybody who is coming to mourn with us: please let us bury Beryl with the kind of peace she liked and the peace she lived.”
