Why Tyler Perry’s latest film ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ was shot in just 4 days

Film director and actor Tyler Perry’s latest project, Why Did I Get Married Again?, was filmed in just four days, with some of the returning cast members describing the experience as unusually fast.
The film brings back several familiar faces from the Why Did I Get Married? franchise, including Tasha Smith and Sharon Leal, while Taraji P. Henson joins the cast.
During an interview with BlackTree TV, the cast discussed Perry’s approach to filmmaking and how quickly the latest instalment was completed.
A four-day filming schedule
Tasha Smith, who returns to the franchise, revealed that the production moved much faster than the original film.
She explained that the first Why Did I Get Married? took about three weeks to film, making the four-day schedule for the new film a major change. “Four days, which was insane,” Smith said.
Sharon Leal, who also returns for the new film, jokingly referred to the experience as “refined insanity”, reflecting on how quickly the cast had to work through the production.
Despite the short schedule, the cast said Perry’s method allows him to move from one scene to another without spending unnecessary time on set.
Why Tyler Perry works quickly
Taraji P. Henson explained that Perry’s speed comes from knowing exactly what he wants before filming begins. According to Henson, the filmmaker has a clear idea of the footage he needs, which allows the production to move quickly without repeatedly shooting scenes.
His familiarity with the story and the characters also helps him maintain a clear direction throughout the filming process. The approach means cast members have to be prepared to deliver their performances within a limited amount of time.
Familiar faces return
Why Did I Get Married Again? reunites several members of the original franchise, bringing back Tyler Perry, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Jones and Lamman Rucker.
Taraji P. Henson is also part of the cast in the latest instalment.
The story centres on Angela and Marcus’ daughter as she prepares to get married. Her wedding brings the familiar group back together, setting the stage for more conversations and complications surrounding relationships.
The return of the characters gives the film a connection to the earlier instalments while introducing a new chapter through the younger generation.
