Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra to get biggest upgrade in 3 years

Samsung could be preparing one of its biggest changes to the Galaxy S series in recent years, with reports pointing to major upgrades for the upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The two premium smartphones are expected to arrive in early 2027, although Samsung has not officially announced their launch date. Leaks so far suggest the company could introduce a new Pro model while also giving the Ultra a major redesign.
The reported changes include improvements to the cameras, battery technology, design, and performance, potentially making the S27 generation a bigger step forward than recent Galaxy S upgrades.
New Galaxy S27 Pro joins the lineup
One of the biggest changes could be the introduction of the Galaxy S27 Pro.
Reports indicate that Samsung is preparing four main Galaxy S27 models: the standard S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. The Pro is expected to sit between the S27+ and Ultra, offering several premium features in a smaller body.
The S27 Pro is reportedly being developed with a screen of about 6.4 to 6.5 inches. It could also share several features with the Ultra, including advanced cameras and Samsung’s Privacy Display technology, but without the S Pen.
This would give buyers another option for those who want high-end features without choosing the larger Ultra model.
Major camera changes
The camera system is also expected to receive attention.
According to reports, the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could get a new 50MP Sony ultra-wide camera, replacing the sensor used on the current generation. Both models are also tipped to receive a new 16MP front camera with autofocus.
The Ultra could retain a 200MP main camera while its rear camera arrangement may change significantly. Recent leaked case renders show a larger raised camera area instead of Samsung’s familiar individual camera lenses.
The Pro could also receive a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, bringing some of the Ultra’s photography capabilities to the smaller model.
Bigger battery expected
Battery life could be another major focus of the S27 Ultra.
Reports suggest Samsung may use silicon-carbon battery technology, similar to what it has introduced in some of its newer foldable devices. The technology could allow the company to increase battery capacity without making the phone considerably thicker.
Some reports have suggested that the S27 Ultra could approach a 6,000mAh battery, although this remains unconfirmed.
The phones are also expected to receive newer processors, with current reports pointing towards Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip for at least some markets.
A new look for Samsung’s flagship
The S27 Pro and Ultra may also receive a design change.
Leaked renders suggest both phones could feature a redesigned camera plateau and more rounded edges. The changes would give the two premium models a different appearance from the standard S27 and S27+, which are expected to retain a more familiar design.
With the Galaxy S27 series still several months away, Samsung could change some of these specifications before launch.
For now, the reported camera improvements, new Pro model, battery technology, and redesigned appearance suggest that the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could represent one of Samsung’s most significant Galaxy S upgrades in several years.
