Babu Owino: Raila Odinga is the last boss I had

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has declared that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is the only political leader he has ever taken instructions from, insisting that no other politician holds authority over him.

Speaking after distributing bursary forms in Tassia, Embakasi Ward, on Monday, February 2, 2026, Owino said Raila remains his last political boss, adding that his leadership mandate comes directly from the people who elected him, not from political heavyweights.

“The last boss I had in politics was Raila Amollo Odinga. For me to be here, I must be a leader. Was I not elected in one of the largest constituencies in Kenya?” Owino posed.

He maintained that senior politicians have no grounds to lecture or intimidate him, arguing that his legitimacy is drawn from voters.

“Those big people who think they are ahead of us have nothing to show me because it is you who elected me. Even if we went back to by-elections, would they defeat me? You are my bosses. Let me remain loyal to you,” he said.

Owino emphasised that beyond Raila Odinga, he answers only to God and the electorate.

“My boss was the one who was above; nobody else will be my leader up there. It is God first, then you,” he said.

While asserting his independence, the MP said he still respects older leaders, clarifying that respect should not be confused with submission.

“Anyone who thinks they can be my boss, I will only give you respect because you are older than me. I will also grow old one day. Let people respect each other,” Owino added.
