How to pack delicate clothes while travelling without creasing

Unpacking a bag after travelling only to find crushed shirts or creased silk dresses is a common frustration.
Between paying Ksh2,000 for hotel laundry services or spending precious time searching for an iron before an early morning meeting, bad wrinkles disrupt travel plans.
Fortunately, keeping formal wear smooth does not require buying expensive packing cubes or carrying bulky garment bags. A simple technique using ordinary tissue paper prevents deep creases and keeps clothes looking freshly ironed.
Why garments crease inside travel bags
Wrinkles happen when folded fabrics rub against each other under pressure while a suitcase moves. When delicate materials like silk, linen, or fine cotton press directly together, the friction traps folds into place and creates sharp lines.

Placing thin tissue paper between folded layers changes how clothes behave inside a bag. The tissue paper acts as a smooth barrier between fabric surfaces.
Instead of silk catching on silk or cotton grabbing cotton, the paper lets the material slide gently when the bag shifts. It also cushions fold lines, preventing hard edges from setting under the weight of other luggage items.
Simple steps to wrap delicate clothes
Wrapping garments takes less than a minute per item and works for both men’s and women’s formal wear.
Lay the garment completely flat on a clean surface like a bed or table, smoothing out existing folds with your hands. Place a sheet of clean tissue paper across the middle section before making the first fold.
Fold one side over the paper, then lay another sheet on top before making the next fold. For longer items such as trousers, suits, or dresses, place rolled tissue paper inside the main horizontal folds to cushion the bends.
Pack these wrapped items at the top of the suitcase or in a separate flat compartment, away from heavy shoes or toiletry bags. Upon arrival, unwrap each item and hang it up immediately.
