Goons attack K24TV crew while covering Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisii, camera destroyed

A K24 television crew came under attack on Friday, July 3, 2026, while covering the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Kisii County, leaving one journalist injured, a station camera destroyed and a media vehicle extensively damaged.
The attack occurred in Keumbu, Kisii County, as journalists covered the opposition-linked civic engagement tour that attracted thousands of residents even from neighbouring Nyamira County.
During the chaos, goons targeted members of the press, disrupting media coverage and forcing K24 to abruptly end its live broadcast after one of its cameras was damaged beyond use.
Photos taken after the incident showed one of the crew members, with a large red sore on his upper body, believed to have been sustained during the commotion.
Another image showed the Toyota Land Cruiser TX being used by the journalists with a huge hole on one side after stones were hurled at the vehicle during the attack.
Massive mobilisation tour
The violence occurred during one of the biggest Linda Mwananchi mobilisation tours held in the Gusii region since the movement was launched.
The leaders began the tour in Nyamira County before proceeding through Keroka, Keumbu, Mosocho and eventually Kisii Town, where thousands of supporters lined major roads to welcome the convoy.
Videos shared throughout the day showed massive crowds escorting the leaders’ vehicles, with supporters waving Kenyan flags, chanting pro-democracy slogans and climbing onto rooftops, balconies and buildings to catch a glimpse of the procession.
At every stop, the leaders addressed residents on a wide range of national issues, including governance, constitutionalism, accountability, the high cost of living, youth unemployment, police brutality and the need to protect democratic freedoms.
The Kisii-Nyamira tour forms part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s ongoing nationwide civic engagement campaign that has seen opposition leaders traverse different counties while urging Kenyans to actively participate in governance and demand greater accountability from public institutions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement has in recent weeks held similar engagements in several parts of the country, attracting huge crowds as leaders continue to popularise what they describe as a people-driven campaign focused on constitutional rights, economic justice and democratic reforms.
