Stoopid Boy burial dispute: What we know so far

The death of Arbantone star Stoopid Boy has been followed by several developments as his family, friends and fellow artistes continue to mourn the popular musician who died on August 27, 2026, at his home in Gotta City.

His death came only months after his family buried his older brother, Ian, adding to the grief surrounding his family.

Since his death, friends, artists and members of his community have continued to pay tribute to the musician, while his family has also been dealing with disagreements over his final send-off.

Family disagreement emerges

In the days following his death, a disagreement emerged between his paternal and maternal sides over where he should be laid to rest.

The paternal family wants Stoopid Boy buried at the family home in Alego, Siaya, while a section of the maternal family has favoured Nyandarua, where his mother is based.

The disagreement has led to calls for both sides of the family to sit down and find a way forward.

Father says Stoopid Boy wanted Siaya

Stoopid Boy’s father, George William Ochieng Awili, has maintained that his son had expressed a wish to be buried in Siaya.

“I just want to fulfil my son’s wishes. He told me that my dad, if I die, take me to my home in Siaya,” Ochieng said.

He later reiterated that he wanted his son’s body taken to Alego.

His brother, Eric Odhiambo, also supported the position, saying the family wanted to honour what they described as Edgar’s wishes.

“We would really like to give Stoopid a very peaceful send-off because his wish was that, when he died, we should accompany him all the way to Siaya. He used to say that all the time,” Odhiambo said.

A family friend, Moses, who spoke with relatives, including the maternal uncle, also said Edgar had expressed a desire to be buried at his father’s compound in Siaya.

Father appeals to mother

Ochieng also recounted a phone conversation with Stoopid Boy’s mother, publicly known as Mama Edgar, Mama Stoopid or Mama Ian.

“Mama Ian, we spoke with her on the phone, and she said Stoopid used to tell her he wants to be buried in Siaya. So please, Mama Stoopid, fulfil what your son told you,” he said.

Ochieng has also said he cannot meet the funeral expenses alone, with the family appealing for financial support.

At one point, the paternal family paused public fundraising as efforts were made to reach an agreement over the funeral arrangements.

Mother calls for dialogue

On September 4, Mama Edgar spoke publicly about the situation, calling for elders from both sides of the family to sit down and agree on how the burial should proceed.

She also spoke about the pain of losing another child only months after burying her other son.

The mother said she had held a three-day wake believing both families were working together towards the burial.

“Saa nimefanya matanga kwa hizo siku tatu nikijua tunashirikiana na ile familia ya the best boy twende tupumzishe mtoto,” she said.

She said she had already asked for elders from both sides to meet and discuss the matter.

“Nilimwambia lete wazee wa kwako, nami nilete wazee wa kwetu, wakae chini tuonge, tukuje venye mambo inaenda,” she said.

Mama Edgar said she did not understand why the matter had turned into a dispute, noting that the family had not fought over the burial of her other son.

“Haina haja ya kumvuta, juu hata uyo mwengine hatukupigania,” she said.

According to her account, the father later said he would not bring elders because of how the other son was buried and that he wanted to take Edgar’s body by force.

She said she wanted the matter resolved through discussions
