Sam Kitiki: Last Wednesday, I almost lost my life
Popular barber Samuel Kilonzo, widely known as Sam Kitiki, has opened up about his battle with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour, also known as GIST cancer.
He revealed on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, that he almost lost his life last Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as he continues fighting the disease. Sam said he is still trying to survive through his work as a barber despite the difficult situation.
“I am currently battling Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST cancer),” Sam Kitiki said.
He explained that although the illness continues to advance, he wakes up every day determined to keep going. According to Sam, working at his barbershop remains the only way he can support himself and fund treatment. He said the journey has been painful, but he is still holding onto hope.

“Even as the disease continues to advance, I still wake up every day determined to fight and provide for myself through the work of my hands as a barber,” he explained.
Sam also shared details about a frightening moment last week when his condition became serious. He said he nearly lost his life but believes he survived through God’s grace. According to him, the experience reminded him how difficult the fight against cancer has become.
Health and financial struggles
“Last week, on Wednesday, I almost lost my life. But by God’s grace, I am still here, still fighting, and still holding onto hope,” Sam Kitiki said.
He explained that business at his barbershop has slowed significantly in recent months. Sam said getting clients has become difficult, making it harder for him to raise money for hospital bills and treatment. He added that the financial pressure has become overwhelming.

“Running my barbershop is the only way I try to survive and raise money for my treatment, but lately getting clients has become very difficult,” he said.
Sam also spoke about the high cost of cancer treatment and the emotional burden that comes with it. He explained that balancing sickness and financial struggles has been one of the hardest parts of his journey. According to him, the cost of treatment continues to rise.
He has now appealed to Kenyans for support as he continues treatment. Sam asked people who are able to visit his barbershop and support his work. He also encouraged those who cannot visit personally to recommend someone or help share his story in any way possible.
