Pritty Vishy announces exit from DJing after unexpected backlash

Content creator Pritty Vishy has announced that she is quitting DJing, saying she has chosen peace after facing unexpected backlash following her decision to start a new career in music.
The 24-year-old said she never expected the reaction she received after revealing that she had become a DJ.
Pritty explained that she was surprised by the response from male DJs in Kenya. She said she did not expect to face such strong opposition while trying something new, especially at the beginning of her journey.
“Recently I came out as a DJ, and I never expected that reception. I never expected. I never expected male DJs to be on my neck,” Pritty Vishy said on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The content creator said she found herself facing many DJs despite being only 24 years old and just starting. She explained that the situation made her reflect on how social media can create expectations that people must already be perfect when they begin something new.
“Just imagine a 24-year-old against 90 per cent of DJs in Kenya,” Pritty Vishy said.
Pritty Vishy chooses to walk away
Pritty said the situation did not end when male DJs began criticising her. She explained that social media has made people believe that anyone who appears online must already be perfect at whatever they are doing, rather than being allowed to show the early stages of learning.
“It did not end when the male DJs started coming on me…social media imetufanya tuamanini kwamba if anyone comes online, you have to be perfect about something, not the beginning side of you. I never imagined I’d say this,” Pritty Vishy said.
Her decision comes after she had earlier responded to criticism over her first DJ mix. Pritty explained that she was still learning as she started her new career and asked people to give her time to improve.
She said she understood why people had questions about the mix but maintained that learning was part of the process. Pritty also explained that she believed her skills would be better understood during a live performance as she continued working on her craft.
Despite previously saying she was serious about pursuing DJing, Pritty has now decided to leave the career behind. She said the decision was about choosing peace after the experience she went through.
