Passaris shares full overview of how Charlene Ruto’s engagement went down

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has congratulated Charlene Chelagat Ruto and Isaya Yunge following their Koito ak Chaik ceremony while sharing some lessons on love and marriage discussed during the traditional celebration.
In a statement shared on her social media page on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Passaris described the occasion as a meaningful celebration that brought together the two families as Charlene and Isaiah prepare to begin a new chapter together.
The ceremony, held in Kilgoris, Narok County, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, brought together family members, politicians, government officials, and other guests to witness the traditional engagement and farewell celebrations.
Passaris congratulates Charlene and Isaya
Reflecting on the event, Passaris said she was honoured to witness the coming together of the two families and congratulated the couple and their parents.
She also extended her best wishes to President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto, as well as Isaya’s family, as the couple moves closer to marriage.
“What a beautiful and deeply meaningful celebration of love, family and tradition at the Koito ak Chaik of Charlene Chelagat Ruto and Isaiah Yunke,” she said.
Passaris described the ceremony as more than a traditional celebration, noting that it also provided an opportunity for those present to share lessons drawn from their experiences of love, relationships and marriage.
Marriage advice shared during ceremony
According to Passaris, some of the advice shared during the gathering came from President William Ruto, who spoke candidly to the young people present.
She said the President’s message to single men and women was practical, while former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s party leader, Dr Oburu Odinga, also offered frank remarks on relationships.
Mama Ida Odinga also shared her thoughts on love and marriage, with Passaris noting that Charlene and Isaya appeared attentive to the advice.
“The day was also filled with wonderful nuggets of wisdom on love, relationships and marriage. The President’s candid advice to the single young men and women in the gathering was both refreshing and grounded,” Passaris said.
She added that the advice offered during the ceremony was shared from a place of experience and care.
A special day for Charlene
Charlene’s Koito ceremony had attracted attention in the weeks leading up to the event after an invitation card bearing the names of her parents was shared publicly.
The invitation announced the traditional engagement and farewell celebration for Charlene and Isaya, setting the stage for a gathering attended by several notable guests.
The ceremony offered a glimpse into the family’s traditional celebrations, with guests dressed for the occasion as the two families marked the important milestone. For Charlene, the event marked an important step towards marriage and the beginning of a new chapter with Isaya.
