Larry Madowo shares a light moment with Ruto at Charlene’s traditional ceremony

Journalist Larry Madowo shared a light moment with President William Ruto during Charlene Ruto’s Koito ceremony, where the two were seen chatting and laughing together.
The journalist attended the traditional engagement in Kilgoris, Narok County, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, alongside several other notable guests. A video from the ceremony captured Larry and Ruto enjoying a brief exchange before moving on.

A photo shared by Oscar Sudi also showed Larry interacting with the Ruto family during the event. Larry is seen shaking hands with First Lady Rachel Ruto before turning to President Ruto, with the two appearing to whisper something to each other. Moments later, they both laughed before Larry walked away to greet other people at the ceremony.
Larry joins guests at the Koito
Larry’s connection to the event also extended to Charlene’s husband-to-be, Isaya Yunge. Judging by Larry’s past social media posts, the two appear to know each other and are likely friends.
This added another personal connection for the journalist as he joined the celebrations.

The ceremony brought together several well-known figures who travelled to Kilgoris for Charlene’s special day. Among those present were Oscar Sudi and Ida Odinga, alongside other politicians, government officials, friends and guests. Many of those attending were seen dressed for the traditional occasion.
Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o, was also among the guests at the ceremony. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and nominated Senator Karen Nyamu were also present. Jalang’o shared a picture showing himself with Sakaja, Passaris and Nyamu as they made their way to the event.

The occasion marked the Koito ak Chaik, a traditional engagement and farewell ceremony for Charlene Chelagat Ruto. The event had been announced through an invitation bearing the names of President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto.
The ceremony allowed guests to come together as Charlene marked the traditional stage of her union with Isaya Yunge. The event also brought together people from different circles around the Ruto family. Among them was Larry, who was captured sharing a relaxed moment with the President.
