Why Kenyans contributed
Kaluma Boy gained widespread attention through TikTok videos documenting his daily life caring for his ailing father, whose condition had required him and his family to provide care at home. His story moved many Kenyans, prompting people from different parts of the country to travel to Othaya to offer emotional and material support.
On September 28, 2025, hundreds of Kenyans travelled to Othaya to support Kaluma Boy and his family, with videos showing groups of people and matatus making their way to his home.
Kaluma Boy had previously explained that caring for his father had been difficult, citing the cost of medication and therapy among the challenges facing the family. His videos of helping his father with daily activities helped inspire the wave of support from Kenyans.
The latest statement comes as Kaluma Boy seeks to assure those who supported him that the funds contributed will be accounted for, with details on the amount received and how the money was utilised.
