Child custody battle: Kanyari says Betty Bayo’s mum is living a sad life in the US

Pastor Victor Kanyari has claimed that Betty Bayo’s mother is living a difficult life in the United States because she has not seen him fully reunited with his children, Sky Victor and Danivictor.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Salvation Healing Ministry founder said the children’s grandmother had always wanted him to raise them following Betty Bayo’s death, but their relationship has since deteriorated.

Relationship turns sour

Kanyari claimed that despite Betty Bayo’s mother’s earlier support for his efforts to regain custody, the two are now at odds.

According to the preacher, she had hoped to see him reunited with Sky Victor and Danivictor, but that has not happened as she expected.

“Nowadays, Betty Bayo’s mum is so sad as she continues with life in America because she wants me to be the one living with my kids, but we are now fighting,” Kanyari said.

He did not disclose what caused the fallout between them.

Dismisses online claims

The preacher also dismissed claims circulating on social media that he had failed to regain custody because his children did not want to live with him.

Kanyari described the reports as false, urging Kenyans not to believe everything shared online.

“I even saw newspapers claiming that the reason I don’t have custody of my kids is that the kids do not want me. Those are rumours. Please stop listening to what people perpetrate,” he said.

He further accused some content creators of spreading misleading stories about public figures to gain attention and increase engagement on social media.

“You know some people have to speak ill about someone for them to trend. If they don’t do that, no one may listen to them, which is why you see them saying such things about me,” he added.

Custody dispute

Kanyari’s remarks come weeks after he announced that Sky Victor and Danivictor had returned to his care following a public custody dispute after Betty Bayo’s death in November 2025.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, June 28, 2026, he said the children were back with him but were still recovering emotionally from recent events.

He also thanked several public figures, including Akothee, Eko Dydda and Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, saying their public support helped bring attention to the matter.

Kanyari added that he was focused on helping the children heal and adjust to their new environment, noting that they were still reluctant to appear before cameras.
