Cartoon Comedian signals return to content creation after stepping away from comedy

Musician Vanessa Akinyi, alias Cartoon Comedian, has hinted at a return to content creation after taking a break from comedy to focus on other aspects of her life and career.

The entertainer sparked excitement among fans after sharing a heartfelt handwritten message on her Instagram page on Monday, July 20, 2026, reflecting on her recent journey and expressing optimism about what lies ahead.

In the note, Cartoon Comedian revealed that she had recently found herself questioning many aspects of her life but said her mother encouraged her to keep believing even when the bigger picture was unclear.

“Lately I’ve found myself questioning a lot of things. Through these moments, my mum has reminded me to keep believing, even when it’s hard to see the bigger picture,” she said

She said she was committed to continuing her creative journey and signed off the message with a promise that fans would see her soon.

“So I’ve chosen to keep creating, to keep growing, and to keep showing up. To anyone who needs to hear this today: you are a star. Never let a difficult season convince you otherwise. See you soon,” she wrote.

Why she stepped away

Cartoon Comedian rose to fame through her humorous skits and stand-up comedy, becoming one of Kenya’s most recognisable digital entertainers.

However, in late 2024, she announced she was stepping away from comedy, rebranding from Cartoon Comedian to her real name as she shifted her focus to music.

In January 2025, she officially launched her music career with her debut EP, Child of Dawn – AKINYI, after previously releasing singles including Kamkora, Acheni Jokes and Mbona Unacheat.

Around the same period, she publicly introduced her relationship with Nigerian content creator Rotimi of Africa.

The couple later welcomed a son together, but their relationship came to an end in February 2026, when they announced they had separated and would co-parent their child.

Her career shift, reduced online activity and personal milestones left many fans wondering whether she would ever return to comedy and content creation.
