Kakamega: Man on the run as police nab accomplice with 100kg bhang

Police officers in Kakamega County have nabbed one individual as a partner escapes in a high-speed chase and seized packs of cannabis sativa wrapped in a polythene bag during a nighttime patrol at a roadblock.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, September 15, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) detailed the successful operation conducted by officers from Matungu Police Station in Kakamega County.

Police have further revealed that the officers flagged down a private vehicle on the evening of Sunday, September 14, 2025.
“One arrested, narcotics seized in Kakamega County. Last night, officers from Matungu Police Station in Kakamega County flagged down a private vehicle at a roadblock,” NPS said.
Notably, police have detailed that after flagging down the private vehicle, the driver, instead of complying with the officers’ directive, defied the order and sped away over the roadblock spikes.

Events that led to the arrest
The event further led to a swift response from the officers, who immediately initiated a high-speed pursuit towards the Mayoni area.
“However, instead of complying with the officers’ directive, the driver defied the order, accelerated away, and drove over the spikes that had been set up across the road. In response, the officers immediately initiated a high-speed pursuit towards the Mayoni area,” NPS said.
Police further revealed that upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a consignment of what was later confirmed to be Cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 100 kilograms.
The authority has confirmed that the narcotics were seized and have since been secured as exhibits at Matungu Police Station.

In addition, police also noted that of the two occupants of the vehicle, one was nabbed at the scene and is currently in police custody, while the other managed to flee and remains at large as investigations continue.
