Nigeria’s music duo P-Square is once again on edge nearly two years after their much-anticipated reunion.

Peter Okoye, who goes by the stage name Mr P, has accused his twin brother, Paul Okoye, aka Rudeboy, of disrespecting him and tarnishing his name in interviews.

Peter further alleges that Paul is working in cahoots with their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

Public breakup statement

Taking to social media on Thursday, June 5, 2025, Mr P issued a lengthy and emotional statement revealing their recent fallout, which has further dented their otherwise stellar music career.

The P-Square group earned international acclaim in the early and late 2010s, but ongoing disputes continue to overshadow their legacy.

In his post on X, Mr P declared, “We are no longer family at this point! Family is blood-related, but the real family is loyalty… Don’t let family be the reason you’re drowning in silence.

“I did – for over 20 years. And it almost cost me everything.”

He continued, “Love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family does not steal from you.

“Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all. Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain.

“My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive! #iDisOwnThem.”

Song ownership dispute

The feud escalated following the release of Mr P’s new single, Winning, part of his two-track EP marking his solo return after the P-Square split.

Rudeboy accused Mr P of stealing the song, claiming it was originally his and meant for his upcoming album set to release next year. Paul backed his claim by sharing a demo version of the track, stating it had been part of a proposed P-Square album.

Mr P denied the accusations, explaining that he co-wrote the song with another artist and shared WhatsApp chats with the producer to prove both brothers had input in the creation.

Despite the controversy, Winning gained traction as a motivational anthem, dividing fans between calls for unity and skepticism over the brothers’ strained relationship.

The 2024 breakup

P-Square’s 2024 split marked a dramatic end to their reunion, citing personal and creative differences.

Paul publicly revealed that their fallout was worsened by legal battles involving their older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.

Paul accused Peter of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to target Jude and himself, an allegation Peter denied.

Instead, Peter claimed that Jude and his wife had been operating a secret company, which led to the legal issues.

Future paths

Since the split, both Mr P and Rudeboy have continued solo music careers with varying success. Mr P’s recent releases, including Winning, showcase his resilience, while Rudeboy continues to build his own brand independently.

Fans remain hopeful for reconciliation but acknowledge that the brothers’ personal disputes may keep them apart indefinitely.

For now, Mr P’s public disowning signals a painful but clear boundary: loyalty and mental well-being have become more important than blood ties in this fractured family saga.
