Tanasha Donna announces music comeback after a one-year break with a new song

Kenyan musician and former radio host Tanasha Donna has announced her return to music after taking a one-year break, unveiling a new song titled VAI.
The artiste shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, August 24, 2026, giving her followers a brief preview of the track and its Brazilian funk-inspired sound.
“A whole year later & VAI is my comeback. Here’s a little tease. Let me know what y’all think,” Tanasha wrote.
She described the song as a blend inspired by Brazilian funk, with a focus on energy, tension and chemistry.
In the video, Tanasha appears dressed in a black long-sleeved cropped knit top paired with a matching dark textured mini skirt. She completes the look with glasses and dark boots as she gives fans a glimpse of her latest musical direction.
Tanasha returns with a new sound
The announcement marks Tanasha’s return to releasing music after a year away from the scene. The musician has previously explored Afro-pop, R&B and contemporary sounds, gradually developing a style that combines different influences.
Her latest project appears to continue that approach while introducing Brazilian funk elements, giving the comeback a different sound from some of her earlier releases.
Tanasha has also described her music as part of her personal growth, with her projects over the years reflecting increased confidence and a clearer sense of direction.
Grammy consideration milestone
One of the notable moments in Tanasha’s music career came with her song Poison, featuring American R&B singer Olivia Longott. The Afro-R&B track was submitted and accepted for Grammy consideration, giving Tanasha another opportunity to reach an international audience.
Poison brought together Tanasha’s vocals and Longott’s delivery, combining East African and American influences. In an Instagram post shared on October 6, 2025, Tanasha expressed her excitement about the achievement, describing it as an important step in her music journey.
While the Grammy consideration did not mean the song received a nomination, the milestone reflected the ambition behind her music and her efforts to reach audiences beyond East Africa.
Building her career independently
Tanasha has also continued to develop her career after her highly publicised relationship with Tanzanian musician Naseeb Abdul Juma, popularly known as Diamond Platnumz. The former couple welcomed a son during their relationship, which attracted considerable attention across East Africa.
After their separation, Tanasha focused on her music and personal growth, gradually establishing an identity separate from the relationship. Her return with VAI now adds another chapter to that journey as she resumes releasing music after a year away.
For Tanasha, the comeback is also an opportunity to introduce listeners to another side of her sound while continuing to develop her identity as an artiste.
