Forex trader David Mwangi, alias King David, has shared a deeply emotional tribute after discovering that his late son, Mateo Kariuki, who passed away at just one year old, had saved thousands before his death.

In a heartfelt post on TikTok on the night of Saturday, August 2, 2025, David reflected on the profound meaning behind the small savings his son had kept, saying they symbolised treasured memories and dreams.

In the video, he can be seen asking Mateo’s elder brother, Jayden, to help unseal Mateo’s savings can before discovering the substantial amount of money the young boy had saved during the twelve months he lived.

He spoke of the bond between Mateo and his older brother Jayden, describing them as “brothers, best friends, dreamers” and how those tiny savings represented love and hope that continue to live on.

“Their little hands… saving coins, but creating memories worth more than gold,” King David wrote, expressing both the pain of loss and the beauty of enduring love.

He explained how the family discovered the savings nearly a week after Mateo’s passing, saying the whole discovery was a poignant reminder of the young boy’s spirit and the precious moments they shared.

“Jayden & Mateo, brothers, best friends, dreamers. Last night together, not knowing it was the last… But love like this never fades.”

King David further urged fans and followers to remember that even in grief, love never fades.

The father of two insisted that the love and memories of his late son live on in every smile, every laugh, and every coin carefully dropped into that little saving box, urging everyone to remember Mateo’s spirit by making efforts to also save money.

“It lives on in every smile, every laugh, every coin dropped in that little saving box 🪙. Rest easy, my little angel Mateo. Your dreams live on in us. 🕊️”

Mateo’s birthday

Earlier, on July 24, 2025, the Forex trader reflected on the emotional memories surrounding the first and only birthday celebration of his late son Mateo Kariuki, describing the moment as both joyful and heartbreaking in hindsight.

Taking to Instagram, the bereaved father recalled how the day was filled with laughter, happiness and dreams for the future as the family marked Mateo’s milestone birthday.

He noted that at the time, there was no hint that their lives were about to take a devastating turn.

“On this day, we were celebrating Mateo’s very first birthday. Full of joy, laughter, and dreams for the future. We had no idea that just one month later, our lives would change forever,” he wrote in a moving tribute.

King David went on to express the deep emotional bond he shared with his son, stating that although Mateo’s time on earth was short, his presence left a lasting mark.

He described his son’s memory as a source of pure love and a reminder of the profound pride he felt as a parent.

“I still hear your laugh; I still see your smile… And though your time with us was short, your presence was powerful. You taught us pure love, and your memory will live in our hearts forever,” he added.

In the heartfelt post, he ended with a solemn farewell to his little angel, assuring him that his legacy would never be forgotten.

“Sleep well, my little angel. You made me a proud parent. You are deeply missed, deeply loved… and never forgotten.”
