Kambua: I never thought I would walk out of maternity ward empty-handed
Gospel artist Kambua Manundu has opened up about one of the most painful seasons of her life.
Speaking about her experiences with loss and faith on YouTube on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, she said, “I never thought I would be the woman who walks out of a maternity ward empty-handed.”
“I have gone through a whole cycle of, in the beginning, ‘Oh God, I know you will do it,’ and then I have gone to ‘God, what is really going on?’ God, can you hear me? Okay, God, whatever! And then back to ‘Okay, God, I believe in you.’ I had a cycle.”

Kambua, one of Africa’s most respected gospel musicians, has walked a journey filled with both hope and heartbreak. She said there were times she would pray for other women to conceive and celebrate their miracles, yet in her private moments, she would whisper to God, “But what about me?” Her words reveal the emotional toll that came with waiting and being constantly asked about her motherhood journey.
Loss, faith, and healing
Kambua shared that people began to call her barren after years of trying to conceive. After five years of waiting, she finally became pregnant, but sadly, she lost the baby. It was a devastating moment for her and her family.

Two years later, in her seventh year of waiting, she conceived again. This time, her baby came too early and had to fight for survival in an incubator. Despite the challenges, she remained hopeful and prayed for a miracle.
However, her strength was tested again when she lost another baby just two days after birth. The pain of walking out of the hospital without her child is one that Kambua says she will never forget. But even in her grief, she chose to keep her faith and trust in God’s plan. Her openness about her journey has inspired many women going through similar struggles.
Today, Kambua is a mother of two children, a boy and a girl. She continues to share her story of faith and grace, and she often says her story is proof that God’s timing is perfect and that even after loss, life can bring joy again.
