The mother of late comedian KK Mwenyewe, born Zakaria Kariuki, has spoken with deep grief following his death, revealing that he was her firstborn and had promised to change her life in ways she had never imagined.

KK Mwenyewe, who rose to fame for his comic skits imitating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, passed away on the night of July 14, 2025, at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital after a brief illness.

His close friend and fellow comedian Kafengo confirmed the tragic news, leaving fans and the comedy fraternity in shock.

In her emotional tribute on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the heartbroken mother described KK as a loving son who not only brought joy to his fans but was also her pillar of hope.

She said that being her firstborn, KK had shared with her big dreams of doing great things for her through his talent and hard work, and his passing has left her devastated.

“KK was my son, and I loved him very much. He was my firstborn, and I cherished him because he had promised to do many things for me through God’s grace,” she said.

She expressed that his untimely death is a heavy burden to bear, saying that while she cannot question God’s plans, the pain of losing him is overwhelming.

“But we cannot question God. He harvested where He had planted and took him to the place He saw was best,” she added,

She asked Kenyans to pray for her as she tries to find healing from the tragedy, noting that it is not easy to move on when every piece of content KK created reminds her of their daily conversations and close bond.

“What I would ask is that you pray for me so that I can heal from this tragedy because it is not easy. Continue praying for me because I will remain online, and I will keep coming across the content he was creating, and I will always be thinking about him,” she added.

The grieving mother also recalled that she would often speak to him every morning, midday, and evening, and now watching his videos will always feel like he is still present for her to call and talk to.

She appealed for continued prayers, saying her heart is broken and only time and faith will help her endure the pain.

“I used to talk to him all the time – morning, midday, and evening – and now, when I see his videos, I will feel like he is still there for me to call and talk to. I am asking for more prayers so that my heart can also heal. It is not easy if you understand.”
