Ruto pays tribute to KK Mwenyewe with Ksh1 M donation

President William Ruto has made a personal donation of Ksh1 million at the memorial service of the late comedian Zachariah Kariuki, also known as Mr KK Mwenyewe.
The Ksh 1 million donation from the president was formally handed over by Denis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, who represented the head of state at the memorial event.
Addressing mourners, Itumbi emphasised that although the money was in his possession, he had requested permission to deliver it directly to the comedian’s mother so she could fully understand and personally oversee the arrangements.
“Ruto ametoa Ksh1 million, wakati niliketi hapa niliuliza how much is remaining for the budget nikaambiwa ni Ksh 1.2 million sasa, with Ksh1.5 million si tumemaliza hiyo kazi? hiyo pesa yote niko nayo lakini nimeomba niende nipatie mama pale nyumbani ndio yeye ajue vile ataorganize hiyo mambo yake ,”Itumbi said.

Burial plans
On July 19, 2025, comedian Kafengo officially announced the burial plans for KK Mwenyewe.
According to Kafengo, the late comedian will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his family home in Gathiroini village, Lari, Kiambu County.
Kafengo, a close friend and fellow comedian, made the announcement after meeting with KK’s family, the local burial committee, members of the community, and clergy from the church KK attended.
“So, yesterday we went to KK Mwenyewe’s village in Lari to plan the burial. We sat down with the committee, family, and church, and we came up with a date for the burial. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025,” Kafengo said.
Death
KK Mwenyewe, died while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
According to Kafengo, KK Mwenyewe died on Monday, July 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment at the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
“We Are Heartbroken To Announce The Sudden Demise Of Zakaria Kariuki, a.k.a. Kk Mwenyewe. He passed away yesterday evening while undergoing medical attention at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital,” he announced.

In his condolence message, Kafengo has called on Kenyans for their support and prayers during this difficult time.
“During these sad moments, we ask for support and prayers for the family and friends. May God give us strength at these difficult Times. May His Soul Rest In Peace,” he added.
He rose to prominence in 2022 for his hilarious and spot-on impersonations of then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, earning him a massive following on TikTok and other social platforms.
