Gachagua eulogises KK Mwenyewe as creative icon and voice of youth

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mourned the death of TikTok comedian and content creator Zachariah Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe, describing him as a gifted satirist and inspiration to many young Kenyans.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Gachagua expressed deep sorrow over Kariuki’s passing, saying:
“I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr Zachariah Kariuki, alias Mr KK Mwenyewe, a content creator par excellence and inspiration to many.”
“Mr KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts,” he added.
Gachagua extended his sympathies to the family, friends and Kenya’s creative community, noting, “I especially condole the creative industry on the loss of a champion whose creative eye lives with us for days to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and God grant his family peace.”

KK Mwenyewe passed away on the night of Monday, July 14, while undergoing treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. He was 23. His death was confirmed by fellow comedian Kafengo, who collaborated with him on several projects.
“We are heartbroken to announce the sudden demise of Zakaria Kariuki, a.k.a. KK Mwenyewe. He passed away yesterday evening while undergoing medical attention at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital,” Kafengo posted on Facebook.
“During these sad moments, we ask for support and prayers for the family and friends. May God give us strength at these difficult times. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
KK Mwenyewe rose to fame in 2022 through viral videos mimicking Gachagua, often donning oversized suits and humorous mannerisms that mirrored the former DP.
His relatable content won him over 1.5 million followers on TikTok and Facebook combined.
He remained active until earlier this month, with his final skit posted on July 4. Tributes from across Kenya’s political and creative circles continued to pour in Tuesday, recognising a bold young artist who used humour to reflect real-life struggles and unite audiences.
