Philip Etale slams Gachagua over Gen Z remarks
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of hypocrisy and tribal incitement in the wake of the ongoing nationwide youth-led protests.
In a strongly worded statement shared via his official X account on Monday, July 14, 2025, Etale mocked Gachagua’s recent attempt to align himself with Gen Z protesters, branding it as a desperate and disingenuous move.
“You can prognosticate what Rigathi Gachagua will say anytime he stands in front of the microphone. His irascibility is beyond comprehension,” Etale stated.
Tribal rhetoric
Describing the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader as “a tribalist par excellence, a hater, and a man full of bile,” Etale questioned Gachagua’s sudden pivot toward youth activism, suggesting it was politically motivated and deeply ironic given his history of divisive rhetoric.
“Today he brags of being the leader of the Gen Z. Doesn’t it ring a bell? Yes,” Etale added, implying that Kenyans should be wary of Gachagua’s true intentions.

Gachagua’s Gen Z remarks
Gachagua’s comments claiming to “stand with Gen Z” have raised eyebrows across the political divide, with critics pointing to his past speeches that often emphasised ethnic loyalty and reinforced regional divides.
Speaking in Seattle, USA, on Monday, July 14, Gachagua appeared to have taken credit for the Gen Z movement, portraying himself as their leader.

He urged Gen Z to stop going to the streets for the protests, arguing that the youth have already made their point.
“I ask the Gen Zs to now stop the protests. You have made your point. Don’t mistake it for cowardice; it’s just being strategic. A good soldier must live to fight another day,” Gachagua said.
DCP satellite party
Gachagua also launched a satellite office for his party in Seattle, Washington State’s most populous city.
In a statement on Monday, July 14, 2025, Gachagua announced the launch of the office, noting that the DCP Party was expanding its presence.
“DCP Party is now expanding its presence with our very first satellite office in Seattle. DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua officially inaugurated the North Pacific Chapter Satellite Office, marking a new milestone in our journey to connect and serve Kenyans across the region,” the statement read in part.
