Diamond Platnumz: Zari and I almost got back together at the beginning of YFA
Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz has revealed that he and his baby mama, Zari Hassan, nearly got back together during the filming of season one of the popular Netflix reality show Young, Famous & African.
Speaking on a podcast on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Diamond said the show was filmed shortly after their breakup, and emotions were still raw. He said the chemistry between them was undeniable, and at some point, they seriously considered rekindling their relationship.

He said the timing, however, made things complicated. According to him, he was not dating singer Zuchu at the time and initially thought getting back with Zari was possible. But after some reflection, he felt it would restrict him from fully playing the role he had taken on in the show.
He said being in a relationship would mean having to behave and limit his freedom, which clashed with the carefree, playboy character he was expected to portray. For that reason, he chose to remain single, prioritising the demands of the show over personal feelings
“We began filming for YFA when Zari and I had just broken up. So when we started doing the show, we almost got back together. I was not with Zuchu at the time. Then I thought about it and said, if we are going to do that, I would not be able to be free to do whatever, I have to behave,” Diamond said.
“For me to play the character I play, the playboy behaviour, I would need to be single,” he added.

In the most recent season of the show, which is season three, Zari Hassan walked down the aisle with her younger lover, Shakib Cham. The wedding was a major highlight of the season, but Diamond was notably absent.
When asked on the show whether he felt jealous watching Zari marry someone else, Diamond gave a bold response.
“Why would I be jealous of what I could have back if I wanted to? If I wanted to get back with Zari, I could. If I want my family back I will get it back. It is just a matter of a snap of a finger and it is done, just like this,” he said confidently.
During a conversation with fellow cast members DJ Naked, Luis, and Swanky, Diamond went even further, saying he was sure that Zari still had feelings for him.
“It is not like a feeling. That is something that I know. It is not a feeling,” he insisted.
His comments sparked a lot of conversation among the cast and fans of the show. Over the years, Diamond and Zari have remained in the public eye, often appearing close in photos and during family moments with their children. Their chemistry has led to speculation about a possible reunion.
Zari slams Diamond
However, Zari has consistently maintained that their relationship is purely based on co-parenting and friendship. She has said many times that there is no chance of a romantic reunion.
After the show aired and Diamond made his bold claims, Zari responded in an interview with a local blog on March 15, 2025, just hours after arriving in Kenya, dismissing Diamond’s belief that he could easily win her back, calling it a reflection of his inflated ego.
“Diamond says whatever he feels like because it feeds his ego. Diamond has an ego, and it constantly needs to be fed. But it is not about what he is saying. Am I actually doing that? Is it true that he can win Zari back?” she asked.
According to Zari, Diamond knows deep down that there is no truth in what he is saying, but he keeps saying it because it makes him feel important.
“So to me, I am like, nah, that is just your ego speaking, and I am perfectly fine with that,” Zari said.
She also made it clear that she has no problem with Diamond as a person or as the father of her children, but she will not allow his words to define her or mislead the public.
