Musician Kevin Kioko alias Bahati has seemingly accepted his new name, ‘Mathew’.

This came up during a campaign rally at the Kamukunji grounds when Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga was introducing parliamentary aspirants present.

In the video that has since gone viral, Bahati is heard trying to whisper “Bahati, Mathare” to the Azimio la Umoja flagbearer.

After several attempts, Raila went ahead to call Bahati “Mathew”, before introducing Jalang’o who is eyeing the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

Bahati however did not sway following the confusion and waved to the crowd.

“Mnasema Baba ameniongezea Jina tuuu hivyo….. BAHATI KIOKO a.k.a MATHEW…Nimekubali,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

This comes after Bahati was handed the Jubilee party nomination certificate to contest for the Mathare parliamentary seat.

Initially, he had been asked to step down in favour of incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch on grounds that Mathare would be zoned for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, he expressed gratitude to Jubilee party leader Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio-One Kenya flag bearer Raila Odinga for the opportunity.

“I would like to say thank you very much I have my ticket and I’ll be on the ballot and I know I’m the next Mathare MP. Thank you Jubilee for the opportunity and my party leader for considering not only Bahati. I promise the seat will definitely go to Azimio,” he said.
