Amber Ray claps back at fan claiming she has never thrown a birthday for her son

Socialite and entrepreneur Amber Ray has fiercely defended herself against criticism from a fan who accused her of neglecting her son, Gavin, during birthday celebrations while going all out for her daughter.

The fan, in a now-viral comment, questioned Amber’s parenting balance, accusing her of consistently organising extravagant, high-budget parties for her daughter but doing little or nothing for her son. The accusation touched a nerve with Amber, who did not let it slide.

“Why have you never hosted a birthday for Gavin?” the fan who was using the TikTok handle @dianamongoi asked.

In a sharp clapback shared on her TikTok, Amber posted a throwback video from Gavin’s latest birthday celebration, in which she had hired a limousine for him, complete with luxurious treats and a stylish day out.

The video showcased Gavin enjoying the VIP experience, laughing and surrounded by friends, proving that she had indeed gone the extra mile for her son’s special day.

In the video, Amber hit back at the assumptions, making it clear that she celebrates her children equally and that no one should judge based on what they assume from online snippets.

She hinted that just because some celebrations are not flaunted on social media does not mean they did not happen.

Africanah’s birthday

The clapback comes just two months after the reality TV star vowed to celebrate her daughter, Africanah Rapudo’s, second birthday with an incredibly luxurious and show-stopping party.

In a post on her Instagram stories on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the self-proclaimed ‘Bibi ya Tajiri’ reminded her followers how Africanah’s first white birthday party had caused a sensation online last year and declared that this year’s celebration would be even more impressive.

“This was Africanah Rapudo’s first birthday, and it was like a movie… I cannot wait to show you what we have planned for this coming one,” she wrote.

Amber Ray also posted a video clip from the previous birthday, showing how much effort had gone into every detail, which had been carefully planned with grandeur and elegance.

The party featured a hired MC, and the decorations were based on a white theme, including a fairy tale park set up for the children to sit and play under.

Lavish party

True to her words, Africanah’s birthday party unfolded in grandeur on the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025, as the couple pulled out all the stops to create an experience that would linger in the memories of those who attended.

The birthday bash, which drew Kenya’s A-list celebrities in large numbers, saw Rapudo shower his daughter with hundreds of crisp Ksh1,000 notes, leaving guests in awe at the sheer opulence the couple had chosen to envelop the year’s milestone celebration in.

In a video shared by SPM Buzz on Instagram, Rapudo, sharply dressed in a wine-red suit, was seen letting the cash fly as Africanah stood beside her mother near a giant podium lit up with brightly coloured letters that proudly spelt out her full name in decorative flair.

As soon as Amber Ray saw Rapudo tossing the notes, she broke into a joyful dance and began ululating with delight, while little Africanah shuffled closer to her mother and joined in with an adorable slow-motion dance move that melted the hearts of everyone watching.

The emcee of the evening, popular YouTuber 2Mbili, kept the energy high by cheering Rapudo on and urging him to keep the money rain going, as the crowd of guests erupted in cheer and excitement.

Otile Brown’s surprise appearance

In true Amber Ray fashion, the celebration scaled glorious heights when renowned Kenyan R&B artiste Otile Brown appeared unexpectedly and delivered a soul-stirring performance of his latest musical offerings.

The singer, dressed in a white sweater-shirt and black trousers, made his entrance just as the celebrations had reached their crescendo and took to the colourfully illuminated stage, joining Amber Ray and Africanah in rhythmic dance as the crowd roared in delight.

Otile, who arrived flanked by approximately four bodyguards, performed his 2022 chart-topping hit ‘Woman,’ a collaboration with Tanzanian Konde Gang label boss Harmonize, stirring the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and admiration.
