Why Chinga Ward MCA was heckled during Kaluma Boy’s event

Kaluma Boy’s highly publicised fundraiser in Othaya on Sunday, September 28, 2025, turned dramatic when Chinga Ward MCA Hon Thuku Meshack Kiruga was badly heckled by the crowd, making it nearly impossible for him to deliver his remarks.
The event, which attracted hundreds of TikTokers, Generation Z supporters, and well-wishers, was organised to raise funds for the treatment of Kaluma’s father, who has been bedridden after a stroke.
While the day was largely characterised by emotional moments and generous contributions, the entry of the MCA onto the stage took a different turn.
The master of ceremonies had already made it clear that the politician would only be allowed to speak if he steered clear of politics. With Gen Z known for their scepticism towards politicians, murmurs and signs of disapproval started even before MCA Kiruga took the microphone.

The MC intervened by asking the attendees to give the MCA a chance, noting that he could potentially donate a significant amount of money that would benefit the fundraiser.
“Even if he gives us 100,000 shillings, it is not money we already had. But he must not bring politics into his speech. Honourable, we welcome you, but when you speak, please avoid politics. This event is for supporting Kaluma, not for politics,” MC Chris stated.
When MCA Kiruga finally addressed the crowd, he attempted to introduce himself by stating that he had come solely to support the cause.
He went further to add that he knew Kaluma’s father personally, saying they had been in school together.
“I have only come here to support this good cause you are doing. I have known Kaluma’s father for a long time because we studied together,” MCA Kiruga stated.
This remark, however, fuelled the crowd’s dissatisfaction, triggering deafening boos that quickly escalated.
The intensity of the heckling grew to the point where the MCA could not proceed with his speech.
Even when he announced his donation, the crowd refused to acknowledge it, drowning his words with chants of disapproval.
The MCA, however, gave a personal donation of Ksh10,000 and also delivered a further Ksh20,000, which he said had been sent by Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
In a video shared on TikTok by user @PrinceJudah, the MCA was captured frowning as he appeared puzzled over why he had been heckled so intensely.
