UDA’s Vincent Kiplimo Ruto has been declared the winner of the Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward by-election after securing 2,999 votes, while KANU candidate Julius Korir Letting came second with 475 votes.

The results were announced at the constituency tallying centre, where the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially handed Kiplimo his certificate.

The centre’s presiding officer, while speaking to the press following Kiplimo’s win, noted that the commission was still finalising procedural steps but took the opportunity to congratulate him for emerging victorious.

The officer also stated that the election was conducted peacefully and that all candidates adhered to the electoral guidelines throughout the campaigns and on voting day.

“Please, we are not done; let’s be patient a bit. So I want to take this opportunity to congratulate him and all the other participants for having had a peaceful campaign and election. Let me give him a chance for a small speech before we proceed,” the IEBC officer said.

Following the win, Vincent, who is the son of former MCA Julius Kipruto, expressed deep gratitude to the IEBC for what he described as fairness from the beginning of the campaign period to the close of voting.

He stated that IEBC had overseen a peaceful election and ensured that the entire exercise ran smoothly.

“Thank you so much, the IEBC body, the security leaders and everyone here. Today is truly a day of great joy. I want to thank the IEBC body for being fair since we started the campaign, and we did a peaceful election today, and IEBC has been the party that ensured things went well, and I want to thank them,” he said.

The UDA politician further thanked his party, saying the support he received from the United Democratic Alliance, led by President William Ruto, had been consistent throughout his bid.

He also expressed appreciation to the voters, stating that his victory was only possible because residents of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny entrusted him with their votes.

“Also, I want to thank the UDA party led by party leader President Ruto for the support he has given me all through till today. I really thank the party. So I also want to thank voters who stood with me. If it’s not them, I could not have won, so I want to sincerely thank them for also trusting me,” Kiplimo added.

He went on to acknowledge the security apparatus, including the OCPD and OCS, for providing security that allowed the process to run without disturbance. Kiplimo also thanked local leaders, including the Deputy Governor and nominated MCAs, who attended the tallying centre to witness the announcement.

“I also want to thank the security team led by the OCPD and OCS for the security they provided today. Also, I thank leaders who came here today, our Deputy Governor and other nominated MCAs, for being here today to witness,” he added.
