UDA primaries: Ruto’s Uasin Gishu backyard registers big turnout

Thousands of residents of Tembelio ward in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, turned up to vote for their preferred candidates in the ongoing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries.
The seat fell vacant following the appointment of the area Member of County Assembly (MCA), Evans Kipruto Kapkea, as the Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu in November 2024, after the former Deputy Governor, John Kibet Barorot, resigned.

In our spot checks in some of the 34 polling stations, there was an encouraging turnout, especially in the morning.
Speaking to People Daily/K24 Digital after casting his vote at Kaptuktuk Primary polling center, Nicholas Koech, one of the aspirants, lauded the use of technology in voting.
“I am very satisfied with online voting and I am very sure the results will reflect the will of the great people of Tembelio ward. We are hoping for the best,” Koech said.

Other aspirants eyeing the coveted UDA ticket are Reuben Kigen Tobosei, Emmanuel Toroitich, Timothy Lelmet, Emanuel Kiprop, Grace Jemutai, Fred Kirui, and Nahashon Kipsiro.

In an exclusive interview, Nelvin Cherono, one of the nomination observers, said they did not witness or encounter any form of irregularity in all the polling centers they visited.
“As observers, we commend the party and security agencies for putting in place adequate measures to ensure that there is integrity in these nominations,” Cherono said.
According to the 2022 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) data, Tembelio ward has 15,237 registered voters.
Some of the polling centers in the ward are Chelalang, Kapsoen, Mutei, Cheburbur, Tuiyo-Luk, Kimore, Kipleketet, Sergoit, Kimoning, Chepkosom, Kipchawat, among others.
