Three 17-year-olds believed to have faked their kidnapping in Kainginyo, Thimbi location in Meru County have been arrested.
According to detectives who arrested them, the trio, two males and one female, staged an abduction of the female and used the scheme to demand a Ksh6 million ransom from her parents lest they make her disappear for good.
The supposed victim is said to have conspired with the two individuals to stage her own abduction and extort her distraught parents.
“In a classic case of misguided get-rich-quick mentality, the three, two males and a female, faked the kidnapping of the female, then called her parents with the demands lest their daughter disappear for good.
“On receiving information of a missing child on September 24, officers at Meru Police Station geared up for a scrupulous manhunt within the locality, reassuring the distraught family whose negotiations with the kidnappers and frantic search for their kin had resulted in futility,” DCI said.
