Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s application to be moved from Gigiri to Muthaiga Police Station has been rejected.

Sonko, who was appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti on Wednesday, February 3, over his Sh10 million corruption case, accused police officers at the Gigiri Police Station of attempting to inject him with an unknown substance.

Through his defence team led by John Khaminwa, Assa Nyakundi, and Wilfred Nyamu, Sonko told the court that he is being mistreated in police custody at Gigiri.

He accused police officers of denying him his medicine, saying he takes medication for a heart condition and high blood pressure.

Further, Sonko said that he has been sleeping on a cold concrete floor without a mattress and blanket.

He accused senior police officers and senior government officers of visiting the police station just to ensure that he is not given preferential treatment.

But instead of transferring Sonko to Muthaiga, Ogoti ordered the Gigiri OSC to ensure the safety of the former City Hall boss while in custody.

However, the magistrate ordered the investigating officer in the graft case to ensure that Sonko is given safe escort back to the Gigiri post after the former governor claimed police wanted to re-arrest and charge him with another crime.

Sonko is due to appear at the Kiambu Law Courts on Thursday, February 4, for the ruling of his bail application on charges of assault and forced entry into private land yesterday.
