Mike Sonko’s daughter Sandra eyes Kitusuru MCA seat
Sandra Sonko, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has officially declared her interest in elective politics, announcing her bid for the Kitusuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat.
She will be vying under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), a political party associated with her father.
Sandra announced on Saturday, May 9, 2026, through a campaign poster shared on her Instagram page, marking her entry into the political scene.
In her message to residents, Sandra positioned herself as a youthful leader focused on change and community development.
She is banking on a people-centred agenda that she says will address key challenges affecting residents at the grassroots level.

Manifesto
Her manifesto focuses on empowering youth, pushes for quality education, aiming to strengthen learning systems and improve access for all children within the ward, as well as better healthcare.
She has also highlighted the importance of safer neighbourhoods and transparent leadership.
“LET’S BUILD Together: Empowering youth, quality education, better healthcare, safer neighbourhoods, and transparent leadership,” Thicky Sandra’s manifesto reads.
Sandra’s entry into politics adds to the growing list of young Kenyans seeking leadership positions, with many looking to reshape local governance through fresh ideas and generational change.
Disclaimer: However, this announcement should be viewed with caution, as it could also be part of a publicity strategy.
In recent months, several celebrities and public figures have shown interest or hinted at political ambitions ahead of 2027, raising questions about whether some early declarations are genuine political bids or publicity moves meant to build public visibility.
Mike Sonko’s party
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko launched his new party after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) handed them full registration.
While speaking after the launch of his party, the NEDP, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, he said the party is set to give the country alternative leadership since, according to him, the country has been held hostage by legacy parties that have existed for years without offering Kenyans meaningful solutions.

“Today, we are very glad the ORPP has issued us with full party registration of our party NEDP-K. We started this journey in 2019, and we logged the documents in 2020, and it has not been an easy journey,” he said.
He stated that his party has the face of Kenya and encompasses all generations in its leadership.
