Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been taken to the Kiambu Law Courts.

Sonko, who spent last night in a cell at the Muthaiga Police Station, was picked up at 6.30 am and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters on Kiambu Road, Nairobi County, before being transferred to the Kiambu Law Courts.

The embattled politician on Tuesday spent the afternoon, from about 3.45 pm, where he was questioned over public utterances in which he confessed to having been involved in the planning of 2017 poll violence.

Sonko went to the DCI offices after unsuccessfully trying to block an order from the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Joseph Kariuki summoning him to record a statement over his election violence allegations.

The outspoken governor has found himself on the wrong side of the law days after Interior Principal Secretary, Dr. Kibicho Karanja, said he had had enough of Sonko’s outburst in which he linked to all manner of unproven claims.
