Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has urged youths to actively participate in politics by vying for various elective positions in the upcoming 2027 general elections, saying the time has come for a new generation of leaders to steer the country forward.

Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on Monday, July 14, 2025, Salasya positioned himself as a beacon of hope for young political aspirants, citing his own performance as a first-time MP as evidence of what youth can achieve in leadership positions.

“First, I want to tell the youth that I, Peter Salasya, am here to be their role model. That’s why you’ve seen on my side, in terms of performance, I’m a first-time MP, but I’m doing so much in my constituency,” Salasya stated.

The young MP said he envisions a future where youthful leaders take charge of the country’s political direction, correcting what he described as mistakes made by current leaders.

“I want to tell young people, I want to see many of them running for MCA, MP, senator, and governor positions,” he said.

Youthful leadership

Speaking on his plans to run for presidency in the 2027 general elections, Salasya mentioned that his nationwide travels have convinced him that youths are ready for change and do not want to wait for traditional political timelines.

“When it comes to the presidency, I’ll be there too, because I want to lead by example. I’ve travelled across this country and asked young people, ‘Do you want me to wait until I’m 50 to run for president?'” he said.

The MP stressed that young Kenyans are ready to embrace youthful leadership and move away from the status quo, arguing that this form of leadership is not only timely but essential, as more citizens are open to new approaches in governance.

“They told me, ‘No, it is now.’ Now is the time to correct the mistakes that the current leaders have made,” he stated.

“They [the youth] are ready for youthful leadership. And me, I’m right there with them,” he added.
