Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has added his voice to the growing list of Kenyan leaders condemning President Ruto’s recent directive instructing police to shoot violent protesters looting and invading police stations in the foot to maim them.

Speaking in Murang’a during a youth meeting on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Salasya said police should instead be taken for refresher courses to learn how to handle civilians, not resort to shooting.

He emphasised that shooting someone in the leg can still be fatal.

Salasya also supported President Museveni’s directive to Ugandan police, which went viral on various social media, advising them on proper firearm handling by instructing them not to carry guns pointed at civilians.

Mmeona juzi Museveni amesema akishika bunduki asionyeshe direct kwa mwananchi; ntaka niulize raisi Wakenya instead ya kuambia askari wako wapige watu risasi  kwa mguu tunataka uwapeleke refresher courses wajue kuhandle wanachi wasikuwe wakipiga watu risasi kwa mguu,“ Salasya said.

Fronting Kangata

During the same meeting, Peter Salasya sparked laughter after fronting Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata as his running mate for the 2027 elections.

While addressing the crowd, Salasya stated that he and Kang’ata are among the few leaders capable of offering real solutions to the country’s challenges. He noted that despite both serving less than a full term in their respective positions, they have delivered tangible results for their people.

Nataka tukiingia mimi nikiwa raisi, wewe ukiwa deputy wangu, alafu Babu Owino atakuwa governor, alafu twende mbele,” Salasya said.

Salasya criticised current leaders for failing to meet the expectations of Kenyans, saying that once he and Kang’ata assume office, they will ensure a smooth transition. He added that those currently in power will be accorded what is required of them, including security, as the new leadership takes over.

Mimi nimekuwa mbunge miaka 5 ile kazi ambayo nimefanya, kazi ambayo Irungu amefanya, inaonyesha ya kwamba sisi ndio solution ya hii nchi, lakini hawa jamaa wengine hawawezi. Tutawaheshimu, tutawapea security, president, ni sisi,” he added.

Salasya further challenged Irungu Kang’ata and Babu Owino, who were also present at the meeting, to form a coalition aimed at liberating the country. He said it appears they are the only leaders who truly understand the issues affecting the nation and the reasons behind the Gen Z protests. He urged them to join forces and provide the solutions the country needs.

Wewe umejua where the problem is; Peter Salasya amejua where the problem is; Babu Owino amejua where the problem is. Si tuungane Pamoja na tuunde mrengo mmoja na tukombee mara moja,” he added.
