Salasya claims unknown individuals posing as officers tried to abduct him in hotel

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has claimed that unknown individuals posing as police officers stormed his hotel room in Mombasa in an attempt to arrest him unlawfully.
In an official statement shared via his Instagram on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the vocal MP, who has declared his interest in running for president in the 2027 general elections, condemned the incident, calling it a criminal act disguised as law enforcement.
“I want to categorically condemn the reckless, shameful, and cowardly attempt by unidentified individuals purporting to be police officers who stormed my hotel residence in Mombasa earlier today to unlawfully arrest me,” Salasya said.
“These individuals had no identification, no arrest warrant, and no explanation—just a crude, rogue attempt to intimidate me,” he added.
Salasya insisted that what happened was not a legal arrest but a targeted attempt to silence him. He described the alleged move as an attack on both his freedom and Kenya’s democracy.
“Let it be clear: this was not an arrest. It was a criminal act disguised as law enforcement. An attack not just on me as a Member of Parliament and 2027 presidential candidate, but on the democratic space of this nation,” he stated.
He called upon the country’s security agencies to investigate the matter, asking who had sent the alleged attackers and why.
“I call upon the relevant security agencies to stop sleeping on their job and swing into immediate action. I demand to know: Who sent these thugs? Who gave them orders to violate my rights? Who is so terrified of my voice that they would resort to such cowardice?” he posed.

In a defiant tone, Salasya vowed not to be intimidated and promised to continue fighting for the rights of Kenyans.
“To those behind this, hear me loud and clear: you will not silence me. You will not threaten me into submission. No amount of intimidation, harassment, or attempted abduction will stop me from speaking for the people of Kenya and fighting for a country free from tyranny and impunity,” he said.
Adding;
“I will soldier on. I will not blink. Kenya must and will be free from dictatorship.”
In another post, Salasya shared a video of the officers in the hotel lobby, not showing if they indeed arrested him. People could be heard telling the officers who were fully armed that they do not have the right to draw their guns on civilians.
“Any arrest of a member of parliament is procedural and must be followed. Thank you, Kenyans, for standing with me . We aren’t living in a banana Republic but a country that is governed by the rule of law,” he wrote.
Salasya’s tour
This comes shortly after he refuted claims linking him to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or suggesting he is being sponsored by the government.
He said that he is not benefiting from any state funding and denied receiving money from any government officials.
This comes amid growing speculation over how the first-time legislator manages to finance his extensive travels across the country.
“Let me be crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt: I am not a UDA project. I am not funded by the State House. I have never received a single cent, let alone Ksh 40 million, from Katoo Ole Metito or any government official. Full stop,” Salasya clarified.

The MP, who is a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), maintained that his nationwide tours are the result of well-thought-out planning, widespread public support, and belief in his leadership.
“What you’re witnessing isn’t money at work. It’s pure strategy, unmatched charisma, and massive goodwill from Kenyans who believe in the future I represent,” he added.
Salasya is currently on a national meet-the-people tour, which began on May 1, 2025, in Busia County. After completing his tour of Western Kenya, he travelled to the Coast region.
He plans to continue his grassroots engagements in Eastern, Mt. Kenya, Narok, Kajiado, and Northern Kenya counties such as Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, before concluding the tour in Nairobi.
Notably, the MP said he would deliberately skip Kisumu, Siaya, and Migori counties, which are strongholds of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
