Ruto: Those involved in stealing and destruction of property will be jailed

President William Ruto has announced that those involved in the destruction of property and businesses during the Saba Saba demonstrations will be prosecuted and jailed.
Speaking during his assessment of the construction progress at the 540 housing units’ project at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi County on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, he stated that the government will also pursue leaders involved in the planning of the vandalism witnessed in the country.
“Everyone caught in the planning, stealing, and destruction of property and businesses will be prosecuted and jailed. And their leaders, we are coming after you,” he declared.
In a stern warning, the head of state said that leaders had incited youths to destroy the property and businesses of other Kenyans by offering them compensation.
“People have destroyed Kenyans’ property and businesses. It is the leaders who incited these occurrences. They are paying youths to go and destroy other people’s property. You cannot sponsor violence in the Republic of Kenya and expect to go scot-free,” he declared.
“It is the responsibility of the government of Kenya, which I lead, to ensure this destruction of property and businesses ends. It must stoop,” he added.

Additionally, he warned that any individual caught attacking a police station or assaulting law enforcement officers will face severe consequences under the full force of the law.
“Anyone who picks up petrol to burn someone else’s business or any other person’s property—such a person should be shot in the leg, taken to hospital, and then presented in court,” he said.

“And I want to tell Kenyans clearly, anyone who attacks a police officer, anyone who invades a police station, that is a declaration of war in the Republic of Kenya. I do not know if we are understanding each other, my friend. Enough is enough. It cannot go on any longer,” he added.
Furthermore, President Ruto has declared that his administration will ensure peace and stability throughout the country.
“And we are going to use any available means to make sure that we stabilise the country. We cannot allow mayhem and anarchy to destroy the development we have in this country,” he said.
“You can call me any names you want to, but I will make sure there’s peace and stability in Kenya by all means possible,” he said.
