Ruto fires back at Gachagua for calling him a liar

President William Ruto has fired back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his claims that he is a liar.
Speaking during a media interview on Monday, March 31, 2025, Ruto termed Gachagua as being unfaithful by claiming that the Kenya Kwanza administration had not launched a single project in Mt Kenya region.
However, the head of state noted that he built a road that traverses outside Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home.
“Umeskia hata viongozi wengine wanasema eti Ruto ni muongo, hakuna kitu amefanya. Mimi nilikuja hapa not far from this State House hapa Gatung’ang’a ile barabara inatoka Marua, inapitia hapo kwa Wambui, hapa kwa Wamunyoro mahali uyo mtu anasema hakuna kitu nimefanya… bara ya kupitia kwake ambayo mimi nimetengeneza,” Ruto stated.
Which loosely translates to: You have heard some leaders saying that Ruto is a liar, there is nothing he has done. I came here, not far from this State House (Sagana State Lodge) here at Gatung’ang’a and we launched a road passing here at Marua, going through Wambui and through Wamunyoro where that man who is saying I have done nothing resides.”
Gachagua’s claims
Ruto’s response came hours after Gachagua claimed that the Kenya Kwanza administration had not launched a single project in Mt Kenya.

“Si mumeskia rais anakuja hapa, anakuja uongo. Sisi tunataka kuambia William Ruto, wewe unakuja hapa Mlima Kenya ukuwe mtu wa kuongea ukweli,” Gachagua stated.
“Project zile zote amabazo ziko hapa ni zile zilianaishwa na rais Uhuru Kenyatta. Hakuna project ata moja yako. Kwa ivo, ukija useme project umefanya ni gani. Zile project ziko ni za Uhuru Kenyatta umekataa kumaliza lakini usikuje kudanganya watu wa Mlima Kenya,” he added.
Which loosely translates to: “You have heard the president is coming here, he is coming with lies. We want to tell the president that he should be truthful when you come here in Mt Kenya.”
“All the projects here were launched by Uhuru Kenyatta there is no even one of his projects. Therefore, when you come, tell us which projects you have done. Projects here were started by Uhuru Kenyatta and you have refused to complete them, but do not come and lie to Mt Kenya people,” Gachagua added.
