Moderate to high rainfall will continue in various parts of the country in the next seven days, from November 12 to November 18, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
This marks the continuation of the short-rain season, which commenced last week in some parts of the country, including Nairobi; however, the weather predicted isolated heavy rainfall may be experienced in some parts of the regions.
According to a weather advisory issued by Kenya Met, different regions will experience showers at different times, including morning, afternoon, or evening.
“Rainfall is expected to continue over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and northeastern Kenya.
“Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of these regions,” the weathermanannounced.
Here are some of the regions set to experience rainfall.
Nairobi and neighbouring counties
According to the general outlook, morning rains are expected over a few places. Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places in the highlands east of the Rift Valley.
The region includes Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
Western region
According to the weatherman’s general outlook, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, which features Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot Counties, will experience rainfall for all seven days.
Showers are mostly expected in the afternoon and evening. Some areas will, however, remain partly cloudy due to the rainfall effects.
Coastal region
Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River Counties, will experience showers over a few places.
Despite the projected rainfall, the areas are expected to experience high daytime temperatures, which will hit 34 degrees Celsius.
South-eastern lowlands
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River Counties, will also experience rainfall.
Most Kenyans in the region currently experiencing short rains were caught off-guard by the showers that started last week. Before that, residents, especially Nairobians, experienced very high temperatures due to the sun’s intensity.
