Rachel Ruto, Ida Odinga and Wetang’ula lead MPs in mourning Elachi’s son

First Lady Rachel Ruto, Ida Odinga and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, led a host of legislators in mourning the death of Elvis Murakana, who is the son of Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi.
In a statement, Wetang’ula condoled with Elachi’s family, noting that no words could describe the pain a parent endures after losing a child.
“This evening, together with First Lady Rachel Ruto, Mama Ida Odinga, and a host of Members of Parliament, we joined Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi to mourn the heartbreaking loss of her beloved son, Elvis Murakana,” Wetang’ula remarked.
Burial date
“While grief is deeply personal and cannot be shared, our presence as colleagues and friends offered some comfort, however small, in this time of unimaginable sorrow that only time will heal,” he added.
In his statement, Wetang’ula also revealed that the burial of the late Elvis will be conducted on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

According to Wetang’ula, Rachel Ruto, conveying the condolences of President William Ruto, urged Elachi to remain anchored in her faith and to lean on God’s embrace for strength and peace. She equally prayed for the family to find solace in the days ahead.
On her part, Ida Odinga offered words of encouragement, reminding Elachi that all is not lost, and that the cherished memories made with Elvis will forever live on.
Elvis’ death was announced on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and several political leaders have sent their condolence messages, among them President William Ruto and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
Leaders mourn Elvis
In the Tuesday evening statement, Ruto prayed for strength for the family to bear the loss of Elvis.

“May God grant Mheshimiwa Beatrice Elachi and the family strength to bear the loss of their dear son, Elvis Murakana. Be comforted by the word of the Lord in Psalm 147:3: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,” Ruto’s statement read.
Raila, who has also lost a son in the past, noted that while he expressed his sympathies, only Elachi could feel the pain of losing her son.

“I know you are heartbroken and I know your world has turned inside out following the death of your son, Elvis Murakana Namenya,” Raila said.
“We don’t, indeed we can’t carry the weight you carry in your heart and body right now. Even though we feel your pain, we can’t feel it in the exact way you do. But be assured, you are not alone. Be assured that we know the strength of the pain you are struggling with currently, and we wish we could shoulder it for you.”
